Abstract:
An exhaust purification device for internal combustion engines performs sulfur poisoning regeneration control by a NOx occluding reduction catalyst (24) being disposed in the engine exhaust system. The catalyst occludes NOx contained in the exhaust gas when the air-to-fuel ratio of the inflowing exhaust gas is lean, and reduces and scrubs the occluded NOx when the air-to-fuel ratio of the inflowing exhaust gas is at the theoretical air-to-fuel ratio or rich; and the device, when SOx occluded by the NOx occluding reduction catalyst (24) needs to be released, raises the catalyst temperature of the NOx occluding reduction catalyst (24) to the SOx release temperature and also enriches the air-to-fuel ratio of the inflowing exhaust gas. When execution of sulfur poisoning regeneration control is required, the SOx emission rate, which is the rate at which SOx that has been occluded by the NOx occluding reduction catalyst (24) is released, is calculated, and sulfur poisoning regeneration control is stopped when that value is less than a minimum emission rate.
