This fabric for protective clothing is fabric for heat-resistant and flame-retardant protective clothing, and is constituted of a spun yarn, which is composed of fibers that comprise 25-75 mass% polyetherimide fibers (A), 20-50 mass% fibers (B) of at least one kind selected from wool and flame-retardant rayon, and 5-25 mass% para-aramid fibers (C). The spun yarn constituting the fabric is a doubled yarn (20) obtained by twisting: (1) a single yarn (24) produced by spinning an even mixture which comprises the fiber components (A) and (B); and (2) a single sheath-core spun yarn (23) which comprises a core (21) that is a para-aramid fiber yarn (C) obtained by spinning through stretch breaking and a sheath (22) configured by spinning a mixture of polyetherimide fibers (A) with fibers (B) of at least one kind selected from wool and flame-retardant rayon. Thus, the fabric for protective clothing has high laundering resistance and is comfortable to wear even when the wearer is in perspiration during working or even in the hot season. The fabric has high heat resistance and flame retardancy, has satisfactory dyeabilty, and is low in production cost. The spun yarn for use in producing the fabric is also provided.
