Abstract:
Provided is an N input N output (N x N) waveguide optical switch (matrix switch) provided with both a cross connect (switching of a one to one connection relation) function and a function which distributes a single input signal to multiple output ports. In the present invention, an N2 number of 2 input 2 output element switches are disposed on the grid of a matrix having N rows and N columns. Each of the N2 number of element switches has a variable divergence configuration which varies the divergence ratio of two outputs to output. Additionally, the N2 number of element switches include, besides a crossed state configured element switch and a bar state configured element switch, an element switch configured to operate a distribution to two outputs at a certain divergence ratio.
