Abstract:

This foil bearing (10) is provided with the top foil (Tf) which has a bearing surface (X), and a back foil (Bf) which elastically supports the top foil (Tf) from behind, and a shaft (6) supported without contact by fluid pressure generated in the bearing clearance (C) between the shaft (6) and the bearing surface (X) which rotate relative to each other. Contact areas (E) between the top foil (Tf) and the back foil (Bf) are provided at multiple points dispersed on the back surface of the top foil (Tf) (the surface opposite of the bearing surface X). The aforementioned contact areas (E) are arranged in a zigzag pattern with respect to the direction of rotation.
