Abstract:
In a fuel injection valve and port-injection internal combustion engine according to the present invention, a breakup position of a fuel spray injected from the fuel injection valve is set so as to be upstream of an air intake valve, the cross-sectional shape of an air intake port and the cross-sectional shape of the fuel spray, in a cross section orthogonal to the injection direction of the fuel spray at a prescribed position based on the breakup position, differ in the width dimension in the directions of each of two mutually orthogonal axes, and the lengthwise direction of the lateral cross section of the air intake port and the lengthwise direction of the lateral cross section of the fuel spray are set so as to align. This makes it possible to facilitate premixing of the fuel spray and air within the air intake port.
