The present application belongs to the technical field of automatic control, and relates to a garbage treatment method for a cleaning device, and a cleaning device and a storage medium. The method comprises: acquiring the currently used space of a collection mechanism; when the used space meets a first compression condition, controlling a compression mechanism to execute a compression action on the collection mechanism; and when the compressed used space of the collection mechanism is greater than a first threshold value, controlling a sewage discharge mechanism to discharge compressed objects from the collection mechanism. By means of the method, the problem of garbage in the collection mechanism being distributed relatively sparsely and irregularly, resulting in the determination regarding the used space being inaccurate and the utilization rate of the internal space of the collection mechanism not being high can be solved; and since the objects in the collection mechanism can be distributed more densely and regularly by means of the compression process, the accuracy of determination regarding the used space is thus improved. Therefore, on the basis of the compressed used space, whether to discharge the objects is determined, such that the space of the collection mechanism can be fully utilized, thereby improving the space utilization rate of the collection mechanism.
