Abstract:
Provided are a gel composition in which a thickener is uniformly dissolved in a polyhydric alcohol, and a method for producing the gel composition. This gel composition includes a polymer including an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid unit, and an anhydrous polyhydric alcohol. The polymer is a partially neutralized product having a degree of neutralization of 20-75%, and the polymer is dissolved in the anhydrous polyhydric alcohol. This method for producing a gel composition is provided with a first step for preparing a dispersion in which a polymer including an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid unit is dispersed in an anhydrous polyhydric alcohol, and a second step for mixing the dispersion and an anhydrous polyhydric alcohol to prepare a polyhydric alcohol solution of the polymer. The polymer used in the first step is a partially neutralized product having a degree of neutralization of 20-75% and is composed of spherical particles.
