Abstract:
In one mode of this invention, electrophoresis is performed on a nucleic-acid sample to be analyzed, said nucleic-acid sample being labeled per base species. A label signal is detected for each base species, yielding detection-strength waveform data, and for each base species, the presence thereof at a base-sequence coordinate position in the nucleic-acid sample is analyzed as follows: for each peak location in the waveform data for that base species, another peak location is selected, the relative signal strength at the peak location in question with respect to the signal strength at the selected other peak location is computed, and said relative signal strength is compared to the corresponding relative signal strength for a known nucleic-acid sample. This makes it possible to acquire, with high sensitivity and precision, information regarding very small genetic mutations in a target gene region.
