Abstract:
This method for manufacturing a glass plate comprises an initial crack forming step in which an initial crack is formed in a mother glass plate MG, and a cleaving step in which the thermal stress that is produced by the heating of an irradiation region SP by a laser beam L and the cooling of a cooling region CP is used to cause a crack CR to develop in a direction along a planned cleaving line CL and in the thickness direction of the mother glass plate MG, with the initial crack as the starting point. In the cleaving step, the laser beam L heats a surface layer SL and an interior section IL of the mother glass plate MG in the irradiation region SP, and the difference ΔT between the maximum temperature of the irradiation region SP and the minimum temperature of the cooling region is made to be 575°C or greater.
