Abstract:
The invention relates to a gravitational energy storage system using compressed air, which is based on a combination of two types of storage, namely gravity storage and compressed-air storage. The system is made up of a water container linked to a cylindrical structure in which a heavy piston is positioned, a reversible pump-turbine for pumping the water, raising the piston and thus storing the energy in a gravitational potential form, and an air compressor linked to a pressurized container for storing the energy in the compressed air while the piston is being raised. This system makes it possible to increase the energy storage capacity of the existing gravitational storage system.
