Abstract:
The disclosed green compact includes an organic binder and an inorganic compound source powder configured from an aluminum source powder and a titanium source powder, said organic binder being such that an aqueous solution comprising 2 wt% of the organic binder has a viscosity of 5000 mPa·s or greater at a temperature of 20°C. The method for producing an aluminum titanate sintered body comprises steps for obtaining a green compact by molding a starting material mixture including an organic binder and an inorganic compound source powder configured from an aluminum source powder and a titanium source powder, removing the organic binder by heating the resulting green compact at a temperature of 150-900°C, and sintering the green compact from which the organic binder has been removed at a temperature of 1300°C or higher, wherein the binder is such that an aqueous solution comprising 2 wt% of the organic binder has a viscosity of 5000 mPa·s or greater at a temperature of 20°C.
