Abstract:
A hierarchical storage management system comprising a hierarchical storage provided at each data center and having one or more storage media, and a hierarchical storage control device for managing one or more hierarchical storages. The hierarchical storage control device is provided with a computing unit which performs a process by which, with respect to data being managed by the hierarchical storage control device, an amount of power consumption required for saving data, cost required for saving data, and a communication time for transferring data from the data center to a reference-source area are calculated, and the calculated amount of power consumption, cost, and communication time are compared with an operation policy set with respect to the data to determine the storage medium at a data center satisfying the operation policy.
