Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to suppress generation of hydrocarbons at cold start of an internal combustion engine. This ignition device for an internal combustion engine is provided with: an ignition coil that causes an ignition plug to generate an electric discharge according to an ignition signal output from a control unit; and an ignition signal interruption circuit that interrupts the ignition signal when the temperature of the ignition coil becomes a prescribed first temperature or more. The ignition signal has a multiple ignition signal used to preheat the ignition plug, and a main ignition signal having a frequency different from that of the multiple ignition signal and used to ignite an air-fuel mixture on the basis of discharging of the ignition plug. The ignition signal interruption circuit interrupts the multiple ignition signal of the ignition signal when the temperature of the ignition coil reaches a second temperature lower than the first signal.
