Abstract:
The disclosure of the present invention pertains to an image processing device and method which enable a light field image to be efficiently encoded. A conversion unit converts a light field image from an image pickup unit or an image processing unit into a plurality of epipolar plane images (EPI domains), and then outputs the light field image which was converted into the EPI domains to an encoding unit. The encoding unit uses the correlation of the spatial directions or the correlation of the temporal directions of the EPI domains to carry out encoding of the EPI domains. The encoding unit outputs the encoded EPI (encoded data) obtained by encoding to a recording unit. The disclosure of the present invention can, for example, be applied to an image pickup device that performs multi-viewpoint image pickup which uses a plurality of camera arrays, in a light field image-pickup technique which enables light-ray tracking.
