The image processing method according to one embodiment has: a step for obtaining an image I [0,0] of a picture as photographed by a photography means while light is shined at the picture from a light source as in a reference position relative to a normal line to the picture; a step for obtaining an image I [α1,0] of the picture as photographed by the photography means while light is being shined at the picture from the light source as in a position that is at an angle α1 from the reference position in a first direction; a step for obtaining an image I [0,β1] of the picture as photographed by the photography means while light is shined at the picture from the light source as in a position that is at an angle β1 from the reference position in a second direction that is different from the first direction; a step for obtaining an image I [0,β2] of the picture as photographed by the photography means while light is shined at the picture from the light source as in a position that is at an angle of β2 from the reference position in the second direction; a step for using a combination of image I [0,β1] and image I [0,β2] to create a stereoscopic distribution diagram of the picture; a step for synthesizing image I [0,0] and at least a portion of each of image I [α1,0], image I [0,β1], and image I [0,β2]; a step for performing emphasis processing that emphasizes the shading of the synthesized image in accordance with heights indicated by the stereoscopic distribution diagram; and a step for recording the image on which the emphasis processing has been performed as two-dimensional image data.
