This technology pertains to an imaging device and an imaging method that enable imaging while suitably adjusting the exposure of an SDR video and the exposure of an HDR video. An imaging device according to this technology comprises: an SDR signal processing unit that generates an SDR video on the basis of a video signal outputted from an imaging element; an HDR signal processing unit that generates an HDR video on the basis of the video signal; an SDR/HDR exposure adjustment unit that adjusts the exposure of the SDR video and the exposure of the HDR video; an SDR exposure adjustment unit that adjusts only the exposure of the SDR video; an SDR recording unit that records the SDR video; an HDR recording unit that records the HDR video; and a display unit that displays, together with the SDR video or the HDR video, SDR exposure information of the SDR video and HDR exposure information of the HDR video. This technology can be applied to a camera that can simultaneously create an SDR video and an HDR video, for example.
