Abstract:
There is a demand for an imaging device capable of capturing images over a light intensity range that is equivalent to or more than that of human vision in dark environments and bright environments. The present invention expands the dynamic range and realizes high picture quality. With a view to obtaining an image with an expanded dynamic range, two capacitors, a large one and a small one, are provided to each pixel. The large capacitor is configured to be sandwiched between a transistor for controlling the amount of electric charge overflowing from the small capacitor and a transistor for resetting accumulated charge. OS transistors are used for both of these transistors. The OS transistors have an extremely low off-current characteristic, and thus enable expansion of the dynamic range of imaging.
