Abstract:
Provided are an induction motor and a railway vehicle compatible with high efficiency and high rotation speed. The induction motor 1 of the present invention comprises a shaft 8, a rotor 3 rotating along with the shaft 8, and a stator 2 arranged so as to face the rotor 3 across an air gap. The rotor 3 has a rotor core 7 rotatably holding the shaft 8, a plurality of slots 6 provided to the rotor core 7, conductor rods 13 provided in the slots 6, a pair of short-circuit rings secured to both ends of the conductor rods 13 in the axial direction and short-circuiting the plurality of conductor rods 13, and an annular member 12 securing the pair of short-circuit rings 14 from the outside. The conductor rods 13 and the short-circuit ring 14 are formed by die casting of aluminum or copper, and the annular member 12 has a tensile strength of 260 N/mm2 or more and a conductivity of 70 IACS% or more at 20°C.
