Abstract:
[Problem] The present invention addresses the problem of providing an internal-combustion engine capable of achieving improved fuel consumption while contributing less to global warming and otherwise producing less of a burden on the environment. [Solution] Rocker shafts (160, 260) work so that a four-stroke operation is performed during high-load conditions and a six-stroke operation is performed during low-load conditions. The four-stroke operation keeps valves (20, 50) closed while opening and closing valves (30, 40) so that strokes of intake, compression, ignition, and exhaust are performed. The six-stroke operation opens and closes the valves (20, 30, 40, 50) so that strokes of intake, pressurization, pressurized intake, compression, ignition, and exhaust are performed.
