Abstract:
Provided is an internal combustion engine (10) including a plurality of cylinders and having an intake passage equipped with an intake control valve which can be used for an impulse supercharge. The cylinders (16) are individually equipped with intake passages (P11, P12, P13 and P14), which are formed to equalize the intake charging efficiencies substantially among the cylinders and which have passage lengths contributing to the generations of column vibrations. These intake passages (P11, P12, P13 and P14) are individually or commonly equipped with an intake control valve (56) for an impulse supercharge. The intake control valve (56) is opened/closed at such a timing as corresponds to the passage lengths (L11, L12, L13 and L14) of the individual intake passages (P11, P12, P13 and P14). Specifically, the passage lengths (L11, L12, L13 and L14) of the intake passages (P11, P12, P13 and P14) are lengths from the intake valve positions of the individual cylinders (16) to the downstream end portion of a surge tank (22).
