Abstract:
The present invention provides a lens device small in size and capable of variably changing the focal length. Each of first and second liquid crystal layers has a circular center part and a plurality of annular parts, the first and second liquid crystal layers can rotate relative to each other, the first and second liquid crystal layers have the same inner diameter and outer diameter of the annular parts which are n-th in order from the center part, and when vortex a pattern in which, in polar coordinates of r and φ, a direction θ1 of an optical axis in a region where φ is φ1 satisfies a relationship given by an expression 3: {α1×φ1+θ0n1}-3°<θ1<{α1×φ1+θ0n1}+3° (where θ0n1 is the direction of the optical axis at φ1=0° for the center part and each annular part) is a vortex orientation pattern, the center part of the first liquid crystal layer has a vortex orientation pattern in which α1=m×0.5, the n-th annular part of the first liquid crystal layer has a vortex orientation pattern in which α1=(m+n)×0.5, the center part of the second liquid crystal layer has a vortex orientation pattern in which α2=-(m×0.5), and the n-th annular part of the second liquid crystal layer has a vortex orientation pattern in which α2=-(m+n)×0.5.
