An anode (2) is formed on the surface of a transparent substrate (1), a hole transport layer (3) is formed on the surface of the anode (2), a light emitting layer (4) comprising quantum dots is formed on the surface of the hole transport layer (3). The light emitting layer (4) comprises a light emitting region (4a) wherein a surfactant is present on the surfaces of the quantum dots, and which emits light of a first prescribed wavelength, and a non-light emitting region (4b) wherein the surfactant is not present on the surfaces of the quantum dots, and which does not emit light. A second light emitting layer (5) which emits light of a second prescribed wavelength is formed on the surface of the light emitting layer (4), and cathodes (6) (a first cathode (6a) and a second cathode (6b)) are formed on the surface of the second light emitting layer (5). Thus, without requiring any complicated processes, a patterning of light emitting regions can be easily implemented, and low cost and excellent light emitting properties can be made to be highly efficient.
