Abstract:

Provided is a light source device that certainly increases the start-up capability of a high-pressure discharge lamp by using a low-cost, start-up light source having a simple configuration to emit a sufficient amount of ultraviolet light inside a discharge container thereof even when the high-pressure discharge lamp is still hot immediately after being switched off. When a high-pressure discharge lamp (1) is started and switched on, a start-up light source (3) emits an ultraviolet beam to a discharge container (5) to increase the start-up capability. The start-up light source (3) includes a discharge tube (18) that is connected to a lighting circuit (11) of the lamp (1) in parallel. An external electrode (20) of the discharge tube (18) includes a metal holder (H1) which is fixed to an electrode lead (8) projecting from the end face of an electrode sealing section (9L) and which keeps the outer circumference section of the discharge tube (18) such that the outer circumference section faces the end face of the electrode sealing section (9L) of the lamp (1) inserted into a bottom hole (14) of a concave reflecting mirror (2).
