Abstract:
The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device which can have improved VHR and contrast, and a liquid crystal display device production method capable of producing such a liquid crystal display device. The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention is provided with a liquid crystal layer containing a liquid crystal material, a sealing member disposed so as to surround the liquid crystal layer as viewed from above, a pair of substrates sandwiching the liquid crystal layer, and an alignment control layer which is disposed in the region surrounded by the sealing member as viewed from above so as to be in contact with the liquid crystal layer, wherein the alignment control layer is used to align a liquid crystal compound in the liquid crystal material in a direction perpendicular or horizontal with respect to the substrate surface, and contains a polymer obtained by polymerizing at least one type of monomer, and the at least one type of monomer contains at least one type of monomer having a coumarin group.
