Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a liquid crystal composition which has excellent vertical alignment properties, image burn-in and compatibility; and a liquid crystal display element which uses this liquid crystal composition. The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition which contains one or more first monomers that have a first mesogenic skeleton, at least one polymerizable group which is represented by general formula (PG1) and is connected to the first mesogenic skeleton, and at least one polar group which is connected to the mesogenic skeleton or the polymerizable group, while containing more than 0.4% by mass of one or more second monomers that have a second mesogenic skeleton and a polymerizable group which is represented by general formula (PG2) and is connected to the second mesogenic skeleton, said second monomers having a chemical structure different from the chemical structure of the first monomers; and this liquid crystal composition has excellent vertical alignment properties, image burn-in characteristics (change of the pretilt angle with time) and compatibility. The present invention also provides a liquid crystal display element which uses this liquid crystal composition.
