Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of inhibiting and preventing degradation of a liquid crystal layer caused by high-energy beam radiation. The first aspect of the present invention is a liquid crystal display element which is characterized by being provided with: a pair of substrates which are a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other; a liquid crystal layer disposed between the substrates and containing a specific liquid crystal compound; a pixel electrode provided on at least one of the substrates; a common electrode provided on at least one of the substrates; a light source unit provided with a light emission element; a light conversion layer provided with pixels of three primary colors (red (R), green (G), and blue (B)) and containing light emission nanocrystals having an emission spectrum within any of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) when light from the light source enters at least one color of the three primary colors; and an alignment control layer provided between at least one of the substrates and the liquid crystal layer and made of a polymerizable compound without an alignment film.
