Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for producing a liquid crystal element that enables easy production without requiring a special alignment film. The method of producing a liquid crystal element includes: forming a liquid crystal layer by arranging a liquid crystal material between a first substrate and a second substrate; and irradiating the liquid crystal layer with light via the first substrate or the second substrate from a direction that is oblique to another surface facing one surface of the first substrate or the second substrate, thereby forming a first polymer layer having a polymer arranged in a direction that is oblique to the one surface of the first substrate, on a surface of a first insulating film facing the liquid crystal layer, and also forming a second polymer layer having a polymer arranged in a direction that is oblique to the one surface of the second substrate on a surface of a second insulating film facing the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal material contains a monomer which can be polymerized by light and which is a trans isomer that has a double bond in a central part thereof.
