Provided are a login authentication method and apparatus based on face recognition, a terminal and a server. The method comprises: establishing a session connection between a first client and a server according to a face recognition trigger request; generating face recognition connection indication information according to the session connection; and acquiring user identity information returned by the server and obtained according to a received face image of a user, logging in according to the user identity information, with the face image being acquired by a second client, and transmitting same to the server according to the face recognition connection indication information. By means of the present invention, face recognition connection indication information generated by a first client indicates that a second client establishes a communication connection with a server, and a face image is acquired by the second client to complete login authentication of a user on the first client. Thus, a user being unable to log in on the first client by means of face recognition when a terminal where the first client is located lacks a shooting device is prevented, enhancing the flexibility of face recognition login and improving the user experience.
