Abstract:
Provided is a technology that estimates cutting force by a novel method other than using a dynamometer. A machine tool that can use a tool to cut a workpiece comprises a first surface within the machine tool, said first surface receiving a force due to the cutting of the workpiece, and a second surface within the machine tool, said second surface receiving a force due to the cutting of the workpiece. The second surface is not parallel to the first surface, and comprises a first distortion sensor linking the first surface and the second surface, and an estimation unit for estimating the force that is acting on the tool, on the basis of an output value from the first distortion sensor during the cutting of the workpiece.
