Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a magnetic memory element for which it is possible for write characteristics and read characteristics to be designed independently, and which does not give rise to an increase in the number of processes, a decrease in the process margin, or an increase in cell surface area. This magnetic memory element is provided with: a free magnetization layer (10) constituted by a ferromagnetic body having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy; a response layer (20) furnished in opposition to the free magnetization layer (10), and constituted by a ferromagnetic body having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy; a non-magnetic layer (30) furnished in opposition to the free magnetization layer (10) to the opposite side from the response layer (20), and constituted by a non-magnetic body; and a reference layer (40) furnished in opposition to the non-magnetic layer (30) to the opposite side from the response layer (20), and constituted by a ferromagnetic body having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The free magnetization layer (10) is provided with a first fixed magnetization region (11a) and a second fixed magnetization region (11b) of mutually antiparallel fixed magnetization, and a free magnetization region (12) in which the magnetization direction is variable.
