Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a material for trapping a substance, preferably volatile organic compounds (VOCs), in a gas phase, which is greatly simplified with respect to a production process and an application process, can be produced within a short time, does not require the prepared upon use, can be produced within a short time, and can be stored for a long period. It is found that, when a solution prepared by mixing a polymeric material with a functional molecule (e.g., an enzyme) is cured and processed by proper methods so as to allow the functional molecule to be included in the polymeric material, a function inherent in the functional molecule that does not commonly exhibit the activity thereof in a gas phase can be developed. Based on this finding, a material for trapping a substance in a gas phase is produced, the material being a composite material in which the functional molecule is included in the polymeric material. More specifically provided is a material for trapping a substance in a gas phase, which can trap a substance in a gas phase, the material comprising a water-soluble polymer having, included therein, a functional protein that retains a capability to bind to the substance. In the material, the functional protein traps the substance when the functional protein exhibits the capability of binding to the substance.
