A banknote receiving and dispensing machine is configured in such a manner that, when banknote jamming occurs in the machine, the jammed banknotes, following banknotes, etc. can be easily removed. A banknote receiving and dispensing machine comprises, in a conveyance path connecting from a discrimination section (3) to a customer service section (1), a circular arc-shaped conveyance path (20) provided with: a cylindrical drive roller (21) which rotates about a rotation axis (21a); and pressure rollers (22) which press the outer peripheral surface of the drive roller. A switchover blade (6) is provided at a branch section (26) at which the circular arc-shaped conveyance path (20) and a branch conveyance path (27) which connects to a temporary holding section (4) are split from each other. A first unit (31) which includes both the customer service section (1) and a pressure roller (22) of the circular arc-shaped conveyance path (20), said pressure roller (22) being located on the customer service section (1) side, and a second unit (34) which includes the temporary holding section (4), the pressure roller (22) located closest to the branch section (26), and the switchover blade (6) are configured to be respectively pivotable about rotation support points (32, 35). The circular arc-shaped path (20) is opened by pivoting the first and second units (31, 34).
