Abstract:
Provided is a membrane defect inspection method that enables automatic detection of filter membrane tearing and seal failure, and that is capable of individually identifying membrane modules in which tearing or seal failure has occurred. The method is a membrane defect inspection method for a membrane module set constituted by a plurality of membrane modules connected in parallel below a straight section of a gas detection pipe that communicates with a primary space of a membrane module to which raw water is supplied, or communicates with a secondary space of a membrane module from which treated water obtained by membrane-filtering the raw water is removed, the gas detection pipe also extending in the horizontal direction, said method comprising: a gas injection step wherein, in a state where the gas detection pipe is filled with water, gas is injected into a space opposite the primary space or the secondary space with which the gas detection pipe of the membrane module communicates; and an echo detection step wherein an ultrasonic sensor, comprising an ultrasonic emission unit and an ultrasonic reception unit, is brought into contact with an end of the straight section of the gas detection pipe, and reflected ultrasonic waves emitted by the ultrasonic emission unit are detected by the ultrasonic reception unit.
