Abstract:
An apparatus for surface treatment, which forms a modified layer on the surface of a workpiece (1) by using electrical discharge energy produced between an electrode and the workpiece. The apparatus comprises a wire electrode (2) for electrical discharge, and a wire electrode feeder including a supply reel (3) for feeding the wire electrode (2) toward the workpiece (1), a take-up reel (4), and so on. The wire electrode (2) includes a conductor (2a) consisting of a ductile material, and a surface modifier deposited on the conductor or a surface-treating material (2b) consisting of the material that can form a modified layer.
