Abstract:
This robot: detects, via a sensor, a user's location and direction of movement as well as an object in the user's periphery; identifies the type and location of the detected object; if the object is a hazard and is located in the user's direction of movement, determines a relative position at which the robot should be located with respect to the user to be a guidance location that is in front of the user and is in a different direction than the direction of movement; drives at least a pair of legs or wheels of the robot to cause the robot to move to the guidance location; drives the at least the pair of legs or wheels to cause the robot to escort the user at the guidance location; and guides the user to change the direction of movement.
