The invention relates to a method for calculating a model of a technical system which comprises a functional structure with functions and at least one undefined parameter. The inventive method consists of the following steps: Interrogating (91) the functional structure of the model; interrogating (93) a data file; creating (92) an optimal environment for calculating the parameters of the model; generating (95) starting values for the at least one undefined parameter from the functional structure, and; calculating (96) and outputting (97) the parameters. The invention also relates to a device for calculating a model of a technical system comprising: a functional structure with functions and at least one undefined parameter; a processor unit (10) and a program which is stored in a working memory and which is designed for carrying out the inventive method; a data input unit (11, 63) via which the functional structure of the model can be input and can be filed in a storage area (20); an initialization module (13) designed for generating starting values for the at least one undefined parameter from the functional structure, and; an output unit (16, 50) via which the parameters of the functions can be output. The invention additionally relates to a computer program product which has a code for executing the inventive method.
