Abstract:
A method for producing a mesophase pitch active carbon fiber comprises carbonizing a mesophase pitch non-fusbible fiber at a temperature from 600 °C to 900 °C, alkali-activating the fiber, immersing the thus obtained mesophase pitch active carbon fiber in an electrolyte, applying a voltage gradually increasing over 2.5 V at a constant current density to the immersed fiber so as to perform a charging/discharging processing by charging the fiber to form an electric double layer at the interface between the surface of the fiber and the electrolyte, and discharging the fiber at a constant current density. An active carbon fiber produced by such a method and an electric double-layer capacitor having an electrode comprising the active carbon fiber are also disclosed.
