Abstract:
The problem addressed by the present invention is to provide: a method for producing an organic EL element that can produce an organic EL element having a long light-emitting life; an organic EL element produced by the production method; a planar light source provided with the organic EL element; an illumination device; and a display device. The solution to the problem is a method for producing an organic electroluminescent element having a first electrode, a second electrode, and an organic layer provided between the first electrode and the second electrode, the organic layer containing an organic compound, and the organic layer is formed by means of a method including: an organic thin film forming step for forming an organic-compound-containing organic thin film by means of a coating method on the surface of the layer on which the organic layer is to be formed in a low-humidity atmosphere having a water concentration of no greater than 10 ppm by volume; and an organic thin film storage step for storing the organic thin film obtained by means of the organic thin film forming step in a high-humidity atmosphere having an absolute humidity of at least 2.0×10-3 kg per kg of dry air by weight.
