Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a polyvinyl alcohol resin with which it is possible to reduce the volatiles content of a polyvinyl alcohol resin and maintain good transparency when dissolved in water. The present invention has a cleaning step for cleaning a polyvinyl alcohol resin obtained by saponifying a polyvinyl ester with a cleaning solution containing 50 to 98 mass parts of methyl acetate, 1 to 49 mass parts of methanol, and 0.01 to 1 mass part of water with respect to a total of 100 mass parts of methyl acetate, methanol, and water, the cleaning step including mixing the polyvinyl alcohol resin with the cleaning solution and preparing a slurry having a solids concentration of 30 mass% or below.
