Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a purified acetic acid that exhibits good color. The method for producing a purified acetic acid comprises treating acetic acid having poor color with a synthetic adsorbent to yield acetic having improved color. The acetic acid that may be a target for the treatment is, for example, acetic acid that has an absorbance at a wavelength of 430 nm of at least 0.01. The acetic acid that may be a target for the treatment may be the acetic acid recovered from an acetic acid-containing solution discharged from a cellulose acetate production process. The synthetic adsorbent may have cation-exchange groups on the surface of a resin. The synthetic adsorbent may also have a porous structure.
