Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a solid fuel from wood-based biomass as a raw material, while attaining excellent compactibility and machine durability, the solid fuel having a high material yield and a high calorie yield, having pulvarizability equal to that of coal, and being made usable as a fuel in pulverized-coal boilers through mixing with coal and pulverization. A crushed material having a size of 50 mm or smaller and constituted of wood-based biomass comprising one belonging to the genus Eucalyptus is torrefied under the conditions of an oxygen concentration of 10% or less and a material temperature of 240-350°C. The obtained torrefied material is compacted into objects having a bulk density (measured in accordance with JIS K 2151-6) of 600 kg/m3 or higher, thereby producing solid-fuel compacts.
