Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing lactic acid from a plant biomass without requiring any sterilization procedure. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing lactic acid, which comprises culturing an alkaliphilic lactic acid bacterium in a culture medium containing a cellulose saccharified solution under non-sterile conditions at pH 9-11 and further culturing the resulting culture at pH 5-9.
