Title:
METHOD FOR SEALING THE FLOW OF PETROLEUM CAUSED BY DAMAGE OF UNDERWATER OIL WELL STEEL TUBE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/005167
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of sealing the crude oil or natural gas flowing out of a steel tube, which is installed in the ocean and used for sucking up oil, when said steel tube breaks. If a deep-sea oil well steel tube (4) breaks in the ocean, an elongate insertion tube (6) having a diameter of about half that of the steel tube (4) and made of a non-magnetic material such as a synthetic resin and having a reticular disc (8) suspended from the end is inserted through the hole (5) at the break of said steel tube (4) up to a prescribed depth and stopped. Magnetic particles of a diameter on the order of millimeters to tens of millimeters are then scattered loosely and dropped from the opening (7) at the top of the insertion tube (6). Said particles attach magnetically to the inner surface of the steel tube (4) near the reticulate disc (8) at the end of the insertion tube (6), and bond to one another to forming clumps, suppressing the flow of crude oil. Then, concrete (24) is injected into the opening (7) at the top of the insertion tube (6) and cured, sealing the flow of petroleum.
