Abstract:

For the use of silica monolith in chromatography such as HPLC column, GC column, etc., for the simplified use thereof as a separation medium, it is intended to provide a method of cladding a glass containing a monolithic adsorbent and a separating agent as main components so as to protect the external surface thereof and to provide a separation medium obtained by the method. Accordingly, silica monolith alone is molded, and the molding is clad with a glass body. Subsequently, fusion bonding of the glass body and the silica monolith is carried out at temperature melting the glass body under appropriate pressure so as to attain integral forming. The thus obtained silica monolith clad with glass has its surface strongly protected by the glass and has its silica monolith interior retaining uniformity, so that uniform flow of a sample solution is ensured to thereby guarantee analytical accuracy.
