Abstract:
The present invention provides a modified vinyl alcohol polymer which has excellent water solubility, excellent viscosity stability of an aqueous solution, and excellent film water resistance. A modified vinyl alcohol polymer which has a group represented by formula (1). In formula (1), R1 represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group that has an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a hydroxyl group or a group represented by -OM; M represents an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal; R2 represents a group containing a siloxane structure; and n represents an integer from 1 to 3.
