Abstract:
A motor drive device (2) comprises: a rectifier circuit (21); a capacitor (23) that smooths a rectified voltage output from the rectifier circuit (21); a three-phase inverter (27) that converts a capacitor voltage output from the capacitor (23) into a three-phase AC voltage and applies the result to a fan motor (134); and a shunt resistor (34) that detects a current flowing between the capacitor (23) and the three-phase inverter (27). If the capacitor voltage has surpassed a threshold voltage due to a regenerative voltage, which can be produced in the fan motor (134) when an outdoor fan (129) rotates due to an external force, a controlling control unit (26) implements a first control to simultaneously turn on an upper arm switching element (Tr1) and a lower arm switching element (Tr2) of at least one phase leg among the three phase legs of the three-phase inverter (27), and causes the capacitor voltage to be discharged via the shunt resistor (34).
