Abstract:
Disclosed are a photosensitizer/metal nanoparticle charge complex and a composition containing the complex for photodynamic therapy or diagnosis. The complex comprises: a metal nanoparticle; a photosensitizer having a first charge; and a connecting portion coupled to the metal nanoparticle and having a second charge, the polarity of which is opposite to the first charge. While the photosensitizer/metal nanoparticle charge complex circulates within the blood, the complex can be maintained to reduce the prolongation of photosensitivity-related side effects. Also, as the complex specifically tends to accumulate in tumorous tissue but cannot easily infiltrate normal tissue, the use of photodynamic treatment can effectively destroy only tumorous tissue. Furthermore, the selective use of fluorescent markers in tumorous tissue can increase the accuracy of tumor diagnosis using the complex.
