Abstract:
Provided is a negative electrode active material for a second battery capable of providing high-capacitance and high-efficiency charge and discharge characteristics. The negative electrode active material comprises a negative electrode active material powder and a coating material layer surrounding a surface of the negative electrode active material powder. The negative electrode active material powder comprises: a silicon single phase; and a silicon-metal alloy phase surrounding the silicon single phase while forming an interface with the silicon single phase. The negative electrode active material contains 60-90 at% of silicon, 3-20 at% of iron, 0-5 at% of a first additive element, and 5-20 at% of carbon, wherein the first additive element is at least one selected from the group consisting of boron (B), magnesium (Mg), aluminum (Al), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), tin (Sn), molybdenum (Mo), niobium (Nb), phosphorus (P), titanium (Ti), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zirconium (Zr), and zinc (Zn), and wherein the coating material layer contains carbon.
