Abstract:
Disclosed is a polymer electrolyte characterized by being an aromatic block copolymer composed of a hydrophilic segment containing a sulfonic acid group and a hydrophobic segment containing no sulfonic acid group, which segments respectively have an aromatic ring in the main chain, wherein the ion exchange capacity of the hydrophilic segment alone is not less than 3.6 mmol/g and the ion exchange capacity of the block copolymer is within the range from 0.5 mmol/g to 3.0 mmol/g. Also disclosed are a polymer electrolyte membrane produced from such a polymer electrolyte and a fuel cell using them.
