Abstract:
Provided are a nuclear fuel manufacturing apparatus and nuclear fuel manufacturing method in which the distribution of a fissile substance, when manufacturing a nuclear fuel having thorium as the main starting material, can be adjusted. The nuclear fuel manufacturing apparatus (100) is provided with an ion-emitting unit (101), a charged particle accelerator (102) for accelerating the ion beam emitted from the ion-emitting unit (101), and a neutron-generating unit (103) for emitting neutrons when the accelerated ion beam is received. A holding section (105) for holding a container (104) that houses the thorium nugget, which is the object of the neutron irradiation, is provided so as to face the neutron-generating unit (103). An ion beam emitted by the ion-emitting unit (101) is accelerated by the charged particle accelerator (102) and is irradiated on the neutron-generating unit (103). The neutron-generating unit (103) that receives the ion beam emits neutrons and the neutrons are irradiated on a thorium aggregate inside the container (104), thereby doping the thorium aggregate with uranium 233.
